Deborah Cortez was born in San Miguel de Tucumán - Argentina, but she spent most of her teen years in Lima - Peru. Deborah relocated to the United States in 1998.
During her time in Peru, Deborah trained at MALI (Museo de Arte de Lima), Escuela Nacional Superior de Arte Dramático (ENSAD), and worked as a professional actor. Her debut on a professional stage was in the production of Peter Pan the Musical with G&G PRODUCCIONES ( a Peruvian theatre company) at the age of 16, she played a minor role as Captain Hook’s ship keeper. After that, Deborah played Anastasia in Cinderella at a TAIJ theatre group production in Lima - Peru.
Now living in Los Angeles, Deborah resumed her artistic career in 2014. She’s trained at Berkeley Rep, A.C.T, and other various workshops in the Bay Area that focus on acting and Shakespeare. She’s a graduate of The Meisner Technique Studio in San Francisco with Jim Jarrett, where she studied for 2 years. She also participated in Theatre Bay Area’s ATLAS program. Deborah is a Groundlings’ Core Track program Improv Intermediate student. She is currently an associate member of La Lengua Teatro en Español and a Collective Member of Rogue Wolf Collective, an LA Theater & Film collective.
Her recent producing work includes Titus Andronicus (with Theatre Lunatico) and Drunk Theatre - Bread & Butter, a short comedy film about Eugene O'Neill's play Bread and Butter with 51st St. Theatre Co. (currently dissolved).
Deborah is passionate about giving voice to characters in stories that have been forgotten or not talked about enough, inspiring others without voices to speak up and share their stories. She hopes to see more work addressing social injustice on both the stage and film. Deborah believes in the beauty of diversity and uniqueness, wanting to bring together all kinds of people of different backgrounds and especially elevate her Latinx community and artists while using the platform of theater. Deborah also enjoys work that allows people to connect with their own humanity, wishing for more compassion and empathy in the world.

Mission
“As an actor, I hold a mirror to the audience that allows them to see their own humanity. I tell meaningful stories as a way to advocate for social justice. Through my art I give voice to the voiceless. I encourage others like me to speak up and go for their dreams. I plead with others like me to share their talents in all their shapes and forms. I am the instrument that provides a window to the human soul. I am the bridge between artists and the community.”
Vision and Values
“Throughout my developing artistic career as an actor, producer, and immigrant woman of color, I see myself as a valuable instrument to bring unity, inclusion and elevation to BIPOC artists, by being an active participant when it comes to casting, season curating, and community building.”
